The New Zealand EAC has agreed to become the naming rights sponsor of what will be now titled the ‘ENZED Trans-Tasman Clash of the Sidecars’ and set to be New Zealand’s largest speedway event of the year.
The event, which will take place on January 22nd at Rosebank Speedway in conjunction with Western Springs, will see four of the top Australian sidecar teams head across the ditch to take on NZ’s best with a $4,000 prize pool up for grabs.
The four visiting riders are all previous Australian champions and include the pairing of Darrin Treloar/Blake Cox who are the current World Champions and 10 x Aussie champions. The team of Justin Plaistead/Simon Cohrs were the 2015 Aussie champions, Mark Mitchell/ Dale Knights won the 2009 Aussie Championship and Mark Plaistead/Darcy Risstrom were the 2012 Aussie champions.
The recent Sydney round of the Supercars championship provided ENZED Canberra an opportunity to ‘wine and dine’ a customer in the form of Chris Love, for a Pit Tour with Cam Waters and Prodrive Racing Australia.
“What a great experience for anyone who has never been in the pits at the V8’s before! Chris was very impressed with the tour. Please pass on our thanks!” said Peter Youngberry.
Despite the quality of teams heading over, the NZ teams are up to the challenge and will feature the current NZ Sidecar Champ, the North and South Island Champs plus the NZ GP champion.
There will be a total of 16 bikes competing over 20 heats with a B and A final. The other 8 bikes will be the top 8 bikes from the qualifying meeting held on Friday 20th January where 30 to 40 bikes are expected to enter. The meeting at Western Springs on Saturday 21st January will be a test match with four Kiwi bikes selected to take on the four Aussie visitors.
