Mid-Season Mayhem!

Mid-Season Mayhem!

The ENZED sponsored Dewtec Motorsport team has been flat out competing in six demanding events. From the Team Champs in early February to the OST Windy City Showdown in March and everything in between, Shane Dewar has been flying the ENZED flag and achieving some amazing results at the same time.

Teams Champs

A sell-out crowd of 17,000 headed to the ENZED Teams Champs at Palmerston North on the 6th and 7th of February. Two lucky Superstock fans were there after winning tickets through the Dewtec Motorsport Facebook competition which was a huge success, with followers of the page now exceeding 10,000.

The ENZED/DEWTEC Motorsport Team were in attendance, handing out an assortment of merchandise along with participating in the Grand Parade.

 Taranaki Champs

The next round of the series was at Stratford the following week on the 13th of February.

Race 1 could not have gone any better for Shane Dewar with a pole position start and a first place finish over the line with a half lap lead over second.

Starting from tenth for Race 2, he certainly had a job ahead of him but being in flying form. He was able thread his way through the field and grab a fantastic fourth place.

The pressure rose further for Race 3 with Shane starting from the rear of the grid in 16th.  Fortunately, with a brilliant start he worked his way up to a well-deserved sixth place, but better yet giving the ENZED/DEWTEC Motorsport Team a four point lead overall and the Taranaki Championship Title!

West Coast Champs

There was no time for celebrations or a hangover after taking the Championship at Taranaki however as the inaugural West Coast Minisprint Champs got underway the day after at the Ocean View Speedway in Wanganui.

Starting at the rear of the eight car field on a one lane track with slower traffic was always going to be tough however Shane was able pick his way through the field to grab fourth place.

The next race and it was 2s all round with Race 2, a second place start and a second place finish.

Race 3 had Shane starting from the middle of the field. Hitting the lead soon after, a battle ensued to keep it that way. Shane was able to bring it over the line in third place for the race and a brilliant second place overall for the event.

Wellington Champs

The ENZED/DEWTEC Motorsport Team headed to Wellington for the Wellington Minisprint Champs on the 20th of February.

Shane had a massive challenge ahead of him for Race 1 with a 12th place start but once again his determination and skill rose to the challenge, making up a huge number of places to finish in fourth place.

A start from eighth place for Race 2 meant the team had it a little easier but only just and Shane took complete advantage by finishing in a hard fought for second place.

A third place start in Race 3 and running third in the points after two races meant a win was needed for Shane to clinch the title. After a solid start and jostling for the lead, a competitor’s undertaking manoeuvre from behind made contact with Shane, causing damage to the front end and relegating him to third place. Not enough for the series win but still achieving an amazing equal second place overall.

North Island Championship

Stratford was the host for the North Island Minisprint Championship on the 27th of February however heavy rain meant postponing the event until the following weekend.

With only 20 final’s places for 27 cars, competition was always going to be intense. With cars divided into two qualifying groups, Shane started his group’s first qualifier in seventh place with a fourth place finish. The second qualifier saw him again start from seventh, this time finishing in fifth place, putting Shane in fifth on the grid for the 20 lap feature race.

At half race distance, Shane had clawed his way into second place. Lapping half the field, Shane sat on the leader’s tail, crossing the line in a fantastic second place for the North Island Championship!

OST Windy City Showdown

The ENZED/DEWTEC Motorsport Team headed back to Wellington for the OST Windy City Showdown on the 12th of March.

Race 1 had Shane starting down in 14th place but as usual, his skill and determination came to the fore as he picked his way through the field to cross the line in seventh.

Starting from sixth for Race 2 made Shane’s workload a little easier and he was able to capitalise on this with brilliant second place finish.

After a start from fifth on the grid for Race 3, contact with another car forced Shane onto the grass, bending the Jacobs ladder, tightening the car and losing two places in the process. Re-entering the race, Shane was able to take sixth place and fourth overall going into the 30 lap feature race.

Moving quickly into third place, Shane, 1NZ and 48P pulled an early gap on the rest of the pack. After two yellow lights and a battle for line honours, Shane was able to bring the ENZED/DEWTEC Motorsport Team home in an awesome third place!

The next exciting round will be on the 19th of March at the Huntly Speedway for the Waikato War Round 2.
