The 19th running of TARGA NEW ZEALAND begins in Auckland on Wednesday 30th October an wrapps up in Taupo five days later.
Of the all cars competing, there is only one that has started and finished all previous Targa NZ’s: the Team ENZED 1964 Fiat Abarth 1000 driven by Mike Lowe of Rotorua. The partnership between ENZED and the Abarth team is one of the longest running sponsorships in New Zealand Motorsport.
The iconic ENZED Abarth, famous for its three and sometimes two-wheel antics, is back stronger and faster than ever. “After destroying two engines last year, we bit the bullet and have come back with a vengeance “ said Lowe, “While the Abarth is the smallest and oldest car in the event, we certainly are not the slowest and this year look forward to get back to catching Porsches, V8’s and modern turbo cars. It’s a great feeling doing that in a little 1000cc car that is almost half a century old”.
The event this year incorporates some 650km of closed special stages and a further 1230km of touring stages including overnight stops in New Plymouth, Palmerston North and Hastings. Targa has cemented its position as the largest motorsport event in NZ, and Team ENZED Abarth is looking forward to continuing it’s enviable record.
