Gaz Grove S&D Drift round 2 sponsors update

December 19, 2013

Round 2 of the D1NZ drifting championship was held over the weekend on a highly technical purpose built track in whangarei called 'The concrete jungle'

After suffering mechanical issues in his top 8 battle in round 1 Gaz was determined to make amends in round 2 and thats exactly what he did! Although not all was plain sailing as an electrical problem in qualifying meant Gaz would only just scrape through and have to battle one of the top qualifiers.

And so the batlles begun! The top 8 started with Gaz chasing and what a chase it was, he scored well enough that he pulled away on his lead lap and came away with a convincing win putting him through to the top 4. That brought and end to saturday a day in which he was happy to be in the top 4 after having the electrical issues earlier in the day.

Sunday arrived and with it the last 2 battles in which the top 4 places would be determined. After looking good through practice it was time to put it all on the line and push for a first ever podium finish.

The top 4 battle was a close run affair but tidy and aggressive driving by Gaz proved to be the difference putting him through to the final. The final coming just minutes later was one of the contests of the day and had the crowd on their feet. With no anouncement till later in the day no one was entirely sure of the result.

The award ceremony arrived at the conclusion of the pro final and with it the anouncement that Gaz Grove had finished 1st and top of the podium!

A huge thanks goes out to all his sponsors who helped him achieve this great result. Gaz now sits in 2nd place in the championship and is looking forward to round 3 in Tauranga on January 17-19 Here are some great images from the weekend
