When the Blues run out on to the pitch at Eden Park against the Crusaders next week, you might do a double take. Why? Because they won’t be wearing their regular jersey, they will be wearing a unique one-off jersey to help raise funds for a very important cause.
Men’s Health Trust New Zealand (You) is an organisation that wants to change the way men think about their health. Most men think of themselves as ten foot tall and bulletproof and only go to the doctor when they’re really sick. On occasion, that might mean a condition has advanced more than it needed to if Kiwi men in general took a more proactive approach to their health.
The Blues are proud to be associated with Men’s Health Trust NZ and have worked with the Trust to put together a special fundraising initiative to raise awareness and funds as we kick into the new rugby season.
These initiatives consist of :
- The Blues to wear a special one-off jersey against the Crusaders at our first home game on Fri 1 March. The 22 playing jerseys will be embroidered to mark the special occasion and will be worn once only.
- Inspiring Stories event - a fundraising evening will be held at Eden Park on Wednesday 27 February with the full squad in attendance and guest speakers include Head Coach Sir John Kirwan and former Blues halfback, Steve Devine.
- The 22 playing jerseys to be worn two days later against the Crusaders will be auctioned on the night, along with one from Keven Mealamu, the four coaches and a jersey signed by the full squad.
- Further limited edition replica jerseys will be sold to raise further funds for Men’s Health Trust New Zealand, but only a limited number have been made.
The jersey, designed in association with Adidas, uses the ‘Harlequin’ style pattern and features the colours of the Auckland, North Harbour and Northland provincial unions. The Men’s Health Trust NZ logo (you) will feature on the collar.
Blues head coach Sir John Kirwan said it’s a fitting way to begin the Blues 2013 campaign on our home ground.
“This jersey signifies many things. A new era for this team; our first home game for the year against our respected foes and a very special jersey to raise funds for a great cause. ”
