JEFF PROVES THAT WITH AN ENZED FRANCHISE THE SKY'S THE LIMIT

Jeff Maurice is one such example. After 20 years of working in the motor trade, starting as an apprentice motor mechanic and ending up in management, Jeff decided it was time to move on so he started looking for his own business.

According to Jeff, it took 3 years to find a business that was a comfortable fit, wasn't a gamble and offered plenty of security, support and a lot of scope for growth.

"I knew I wanted to remain in a service based industry, and after a stint in management I decided that side of the business wasn't for me, so I looked for businesses that provided hands-on opportunities.

"My long term plan was always to own an ENZED Service Centre, that’s where the ENZED Hose Doctors get their supplies from, but I wasn’t about to gamble upwards of $750,000 without doing my homework and feeling comfortable first.

"And just on 3 years of starting my ENZED Hose Doctor franchise I had built my $40,000 investment into a business that was turning over more than $300,000, which I was then able to sell to finance the purchase of the Brisbane Central Service Centre.... and then the Strathpine Service Centre 2 years later," Jeff said.

"Through a friend of a friend I heard about Parker Hannifin's ENZED Hose Doctor service, and I'll admit that initially it wasn't my idea of an ideal business, but after looking into the concept I could see it was a good first step in securing my financial future.

"So in 1999 I got some hands-on experience at the Brisbane Central ENZED Service Centre before buying what is called a ‘cold-start' ENZED Hose Doctor franchise – which meant I got all the equipment needed to make hose fittings, TAFE Accredited training at Parker Hannifin and the right to develop my own customer base in the Brisbane Central Region.

"The biggest lesson I learnt from being an ENZED Hose Doctor was that if you work hard, are reasonably good at what you do, provide good service and give your customers what they want you'll do well. And if you like talking to people and are fairly good at selling, you'll do really well.

"You'll also get a lot of job satisfaction from being able to help customers and get them going again, and Parker Hannifin support their ENZED Hose Doctors with great programmes and training that are designed to build strong relationships between the Hose Doctor and the customer, so you're never alone.

From my days as an ENZED Hose Doctor I've made lots of business relationships and some really good close friendships.

"My ENZED Hose Doctor franchise offered me the opportunity to get a return on my effort. The harder I worked, the better I got at my job and the happier my customers became the more referrals I got.

"So based on this experience I knew that I would be able to take this knowledge and apply it to the Brisbane Central Service Centre in order for it to reach its full potential.

"By using this simple customer first formula we've been able to achieve substantial growth in the Brisbane Central Service Centre's turnover in just 5 years.

"Based on the success we'd achieved in Brisbane I then turned my sights on the ENZED Service Centre in Strathpine, just north of Brisbane, as I believed that like Brisbane Central the Strathpine store was under performing.

"We made the owner an offer and he agreed to sell, that was just over 2 years ago. Since then we've built the business up to where we are getting double digit growth every year and is now supporting 4 ENZED Hose Doctors.

"Getting into the Service Centres has proved to be a great move, I'm working with a great team of my own employees and the Hose Doctors, while getting involved in all aspects of the business - from working the front counter to getting on the tools if need be.

"Being involved at all levels of the business has also taught me that a strong focus on service only works if you're using the best products, and on this score I'm proud to say that we use Parker Hannifin hoses and fittings.


"In my experience there are no better products on the market. Sure our competitors can sell something cheaper, but when it fails we're the ones that get the call to come fix the mess. So like they say – you get what you pay for.
